Madhumita

Madhumita has a vast range of expertise and repertoire. She presents Hindi Bollywood hits, ghazals, semi-classical and Bengali modern songs with equal dexterity. From foot tapping numbers to great ghazals, Madhumita enthralls audiences worldwide. She has released 4 music albums to date. In December 2017 she launched in Mumbai her first Bollywood debut album “Tum Bin” with three duets also sung by Bollywood Melody King Kumar Sanu. The album is selling widely on iTunes, Amazon, and Saavn in India and abroad. In 2018, she recorded a fabulous ghazal single “Unko Ana Na Tha” composed by Arunasish Roy and arranged by Prattyush Banerjee. In 2018, she also completed a live tour “Soul & Strings” accompanied by Sarodist Dr. Rajeeb Chakraborty and Kolkata Singer Shom Chatterjee. In 2009 she completed playback for a commercial Bengali film (Jokhon Eschechilam) and in 2010 has done playback for a Hollywood crossover film titled “Adios Mi Amigos”. She also has been collaborating with Bollywood music director such as legendary Bappi Lahiri, and Ghazal maestro Sudeep Banerjee. In 2010 she coproduced with Grammy-nominated producer Alexander Adhami (composer also for Cirque du Soleil) a world music track. In 2014, she along with her husband appeared on the popular TV show “Aaj shokaler amontrone” on Tara Music channel in Kolkata. In 2015 she released her first International Ghazal Album “Teri Khusboo” with co-singer Shuvodeep Mukherjee which has become a collector’s item. She has been invited to perform at NABC on three different occasions. She started learning music first from her mother at the tender age of six. Then she learnt RabindraSangeet from Rabitirtha Music School in Calcutta, India under the legendary Smt. Suchitra Mitra. Madhumita holds the unique distinction of having stood first for all thirteen years of training and received the Gold Medal from Rabitirtha which was given to her by Hemant Kumar. She then obtained training in Indian Classical music and went on to receive her Sangeet Prabhakar from Allahabad where she stood second. Madhumita moved to the US in 1989 and started her career in music teaching and live performances. Prior to that, she was a regular performer in All India radio and Calcutta television. She recorded her first album “Ore Mor Shishu Bholanath” as a child artist in 1979 which was released by H.M.V. Today she spends half the year in Kolkata/Mumbai for recording projects and the rest of the time in Los Angeles where she runs a large music school.


Samir

Samir is a virtuoso musical talent, composer and recording engineer. He was a professional guitarist in Calcutta and accompanied legends such as Hemant Kumar, Runa Laila, Bani Thakur and Hoimonti Shukla. He has performed on Calcutta Television and with famous artists in many prestigious venues in Calcutta. In the US, he has accompanied live on stage with Ghazal badshah Jagjit Singh. Samir has composed “Emotional Eyes” a modern Bengali album for Madhumita. He also arranged and recorded the first ever Broadway-style Bengali musical “Sinbad” performed in Los Angeles in 2006. In 2016 he scored as debut music director for a commercial Bengali Film “Jokhon Eschechilam” in Kolkata. He also did original music score for an independent Hollywood film titled “Adios Mi Amigos” that released in 2010. He has collaborated with Grammy-nominated sarod player Ustad Aashish Khan, Joey Sommerville (band musician for Prince) and Marty Cheyka (Innerscope records). He has accompanied several famous singers such as Jeffrey Iqbal, Samina Chowdhury, Shaheb Chatterjee, Promita Mullick, Ferdous Ara, Baby Nazneen, Suvodeep Mukherjee, Sougata Banerjee, S. I. Tutul, Andrew Kishore, and many others at various Los Angeles events. In 2017, he composed 4 tunes for Kumar Sanu and Madhumita that was released as album Tum Bin amongst big media fanfare in Mumbai. He also holds a Ph.D in computer science and is the Fletcher Jones Chair and Professor at Claremont Graduate University.
